The unfortunate Everton defender Megan Finnigan’s own goal and a goal from Kenza Dali helped Villa cut the distance to fourth-placed Arsenal.
Everton came close in a close game through Rikke Sedecke and Jess Park, but they were unable to break through.
They still hold a game over Villa and are in sixth.
When Rachel Daly, the WSL’s leading scorer, made a play, Villa quickly seized the ahead. Her deft pass set Dali up for a shot that deflected just enough to pass Courtney Brosnan and kiss the post.
Carla Ward’s team kept Everton at bay for the most part, and they increased their lead when Finnigan unintentionally turned in a low cross from Mayumi Pacheco.
The Toffees have only scored 16 goals so far this season, thus Villa finished the game fairly easily. Daly came only inches from from scoring a third goal when he headed over in the closing seconds.
