The movie won awards for best musical or comedy film, best script, best comic actor for Colin Farrell, its lead, an Irish actor.

The Banshees of Inisherin, a story about two friends who argue after one decides to abruptly quit their relationship, is set on a lonely island off the west coast of Ireland.

In the movie, Farrell reteams with Brendan Gleeson and director Martin McDonagh. On the cult classic In Bruges from 2007, the trio previously collaborated.

Farrell declared in a passionate speech: “I owe Martin McDonagh a great deal. I’ll begrudgingly be grateful to you for the rest of my life since you permanently altered the course of my life.

For the same movie, McDonagh took home the award for best script. Before collaborating with the same team once more, he jokingly vowed to “try not to leave it another 14 years.”

The Fabelmans, which portrays a young kid who develops a love for filmmaking and is partially based on Spielberg himself, won Spielberg the award for best director.

In his award speech, he stated, “With this story, I put a lot of difficulties in my way. “Throughout my career, I broke this story down into pieces, but I never had the guts to tackle it head-on.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once, which had two of its stars, Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, win acting awards, was another notable movie winner.

Yeoh plays a laundromat employee who travels through the multiverse in search of many incarnations of herself in the absurd science fiction film.

When claiming her prize, Yeoh said: “Last year, I turned 60. And I believe that all of you women are aware of the fact that, as the days, years, and population increase, it appears that the number of opportunities decreases.

And I believe I was thinking, “Well, you had a pretty terrific run, worked with some of the best people… then along came the best present – Everything Everywhere All at Once,” at the moment.

Whereas Austin Butler, who played singer Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s biography, faced tight opposition for the title of outstanding drama actor.

“I owe this to a fearless, imaginative filmmaker who gave me the opportunity to take risks and who I knew would always be there to back me. I adore you, Baz Luhrmann, “Butler remarked. “Elvis Presley himself comes last. You were a renegade and an idol.”

Ingrid Garner
Julia Garner, the star of Inventing Anna, won the award for outstanding TV supporting actress for her role as Ruth Langmore in Ozark.

Kevin Costner and Zendaya, who took home the award for outstanding TV drama actress for Euphoria, were among the other winners who skipped the ceremony.

While Tyler James Williams and Quinta Brunson, two of Abbott Elementary’s performers, won acting awards, Abbott Elementary was voted the best comedy series.

The White Lotus was named the best limited series, while Jennifer Coolidge, the show’s sole actor to participate in both seasons, received praise.

In an almost four-minute acceptance speech, Coolidge reflected on her career and thanked show creator Mike White for helping to advance it.

When she was younger, “I had such high goals and ambitions, but they get fizzled by life,” she remarked. I simply want to thank Mike White for giving me hope and a fresh start. “I had these big aspirations, and then you get older…

The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and Ozark’s Julia Garner, who said portraying her wildly famous character Ruth Langmore had “been the greatest blessing in my life,” were also recognized for their performance in the TV categories.

Quan shed a tear as he won the award for best supporting feature actor. Quan played a young Harrison Ford in the Steven Spielberg-directed Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

“I was brought up to never forget my roots and to always be grateful for the person who gave me my first chance. I’m very glad Steven Spielberg is here tonight “said he.

Social media users’ reactions to new host Jerrod Carmichael were conflicted.
Jerrod Carmichael, the ceremony’s first host, cracked a joke on the lack of diversity in the Globes’ voting group in 2021: “I’ll tell you why I’m here, I’m here because I’m black.”

In addition to being awkward and lacking in jokes, the US comedian’s opening monologue spent a lot of time requesting silence from the audience. But as the show went on, he performed with more assurance.

Many viewers praised him for being prepared to make people uncomfortable with his frequently scathing and brutally honest one-liners, while others thought his jokes were inappropriate or disrespectful.

The Beverley Hilton was mentioned in relation to the ceremony, and Carmichael referred to it as “the hotel that killed Whitney Houston.” From the stage, he addressed certain celebrities, encouraging Rihanna to put aside public pressure and take her time writing her eagerly anticipated new album.

The most obscene jab was when he said that the three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise had returned should be “exchanged for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige”—a reference to the Scientology leader David Miscavige’s wife, who hasn’t been spotted in public since 2007.

The actor had won “the Rock Hudson award for finest portrayal of machismo on television,” Carmichael recalled Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars.

In her acceptance speech, Angela Bassett, who won best supporting actress for her role in Wakanda Forever, paid homage to the late Chadwick Boseman, who played the title character in the first Black Panther movie.

“The brilliance and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman were all around us every single day,” she remarked. “It is a part of his legacy that he led us to with this important Black Panther series. Beyond, behind, and in front of the camera, we demonstrated to the world what black unity, leadership, and love looks like.”

Angela Bassett, who won the award for best supporting actress, is widely expected to win an Oscar for her role in Wakanda Forever.
The Babylon score by composer Justin Hurwitz won an award in the musical categories, and the best original song awarded to Naatu Naatu from the Indian action movie RRR.

Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift, three of the biggest names in pop music, were defeated by the song in the same category.

Argentina, 1985 surprised everyone by taking home the prize for best non-English language picture. RRR, Decision to Leave, and the Oscar-nominated All Quiet on the Western Front provided stiff competition, but it prevailed.

Jill Coolidge
Guillermo del Toro, the director of Pinocchio, made reference to the fact that this year’s ceremony was the first Globes to be broadcast on television since the pandemic when he presented Jennifer Coolidge with a prize for her work in the dark comedy series The White Lotus. “We’re back, and I’m happier to see you in person. What could be better—some of us are inebriated? “He laughed.

But he also used the chance to promote the art of animation. Since animation is cinema, he continued, “it’s been a great year for cinema of all kinds and goals, gigantic swings, intimate movies, and consequently it’s been a great year for animation.” “Animation is a medium, not a genre for children.”

The message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was introduced by actor Sean Penn. Zelensky declared that it was “obvious” that the “tide was turning” in his nation’s protracted battle and that Ukraine will prevail in its struggle.

Eddie Murphy mentioned the Oscars slap when accepting the coveted Cecil B. DeMille medal, one of the Globes’ highest honors, and offered guidance to upcoming actors in his speech.

Murphy remarked, “To succeed, thrive, and live a long life… you just do these three things.” Pay your taxes, take care of business, and refrain from mentioning the name of Will Smith’s wife.
